Pimping My Friends

We Dare

May 28, 2019 by Kacey Ezell Leave a Comment

This weekend, Theogony Press drops a new anthology edited by Jamie Ibson and Chris Kennedy. The anthology, called WE DARE, is a collection of stories that center around the always-exciting theme of human augmentation.

This is fun stuff, my friends. Fun, and if Jamie is to be believed, kinda dark. 🙂 My story, “Now You See Me” mirrors “Now You Don’t”, written my the incredibly talented Josh Hayes. In these two stories, we follow the adventures of a couple of highly augmented industrial super-operatives working against one another for the biggest tech score of their lives. 🙂

I hope you’ll check out WE DARE. It’s available on 31 May 2019. And if you liked it, leave a review!

Release Weekend!

February 16, 2019 by Kacey Ezell 2 Comments

Happy Release Weekend! I’m super excited to announce that THOSE IN PERIL, edited by Chris Kennedy and James Young, is LIVE and available in eBook and trade paperback! AND, as of the time I’m posting this, it’s the #1 Hot New Release on Amazon in two categories!

THOSE IN PERIL is the brainchild of editor James Young, and it’s a brilliant collection of naval-themed alternate history stories. This anthology aims to make you wonder “what if?” and explores several possible answers to that question.

My story, “Naked” is set in my Psyche of War universe (same universe as MINDS OF MEN and its upcoming sequel THE WORLD ASUNDER) and it tells my version of the story behind my favorite photograph from World War II.

(side note: click on that link to see the photograph, and then enjoy the next few hours clicking through some really amazing historical documentation!)

In other news, I’ve been enjoying playing a silly little game called Slime Rancher on Xbox recently. I first encountered the game when my husband’s buddy Thranxes recommended it as a fun game for our youngest daughter to play. Sure enough, he was right, and I got sucked into it as well. 🙂

Thranxes has a YouTube channel with gameplay videos of a LOT of fun games. I know quite a few of my fans are also gamers, so I figured some of you might be interested in checking it out. Clicking on the banner will take you there, as will clicking here!

Marisa Wolf and I in front of The Bubba Truck from ASSASSIN (yes, it’s real!) Photo credit the amazing Oleg Volk

That’s about it for now, my friends. I’ll have another update for you soon. As a hint as to the topic, please enjoy this picture of me and my fabulous coauthor, Marisa Wolf ! This was taken at LibertyCon last year.

Until next time, be well and take care of each other. Much love!

Release Day: Kingdoms of Iron & Stone

January 31, 2019 by Kacey Ezell Leave a Comment

Hey Friends! I’m super excited to announce that I have a story in KINGDOMS OF IRON & STONE, a magnificent epic fantasy anthology brought to you by the geniuses (geniuii?) behind Keystroke Medium!

My story is called “King Edrick and the Dragon”, and it was a lot of fun to write, mostly because I played with one of my favorite epic fantasy tropes: that of the brave knight slaying the evil, maiden-stealing dragon. 🙂

The ebook is available now, and the paperback will go live in a few days. Members of The Cool Kids’ Table (my mailing list), look for a heads up email when the hard copy is available.

I hope you check it out. There are some really terrific stories here, and I’d love to see this anthology do really well. The Keystroke Medium team are some fantastically talented writers, editors, and podcasters, and I’d love it if we could show them some serious support!

And don’t forget to leave a review!

Happy New Year!!

January 2, 2019 by Kacey Ezell Leave a Comment

Hello, 2019, you sexy beast! Let’s party! 🙂

Welcome to 2019, friends! I hope you’ve all had a joyous holiday season, one which allowed you to reconnect with those people and things you love most.

I’ve always been a big fan of celebrating the new year. While it’s always fun to cap off the holiday season with a huge blowout bash, over the last few years I’ve really gotten into reflecting on the past year and looking ahead with goals for the next trip around the sun.

One of my continuing goals is to do several podcasts and promotional things of that type, so watch this space for announcements.

Like this one! 🙂

My buddy Sean is a huge gamer, and he runs the Savage Rifts Voice of Hope podcast. He invited me to do a guest spot on his show, and then we talked a little bit about gaming and writing and fun stuff like that. You can listen to the podcast here, and I hope you’ll check out Sean’s show while you’re at it!

Here’s to a fantastic 2019! May you make it everything you want it to be!

Much love,
kc

Pimping My Friends — Jason Cordova

October 20, 2018 by Kacey Ezell 2 Comments

Cover Art for The Kin Wars by Jason Cordova

Hey Friends!  I have really terrific news!  Today’s “Pimping My Friends” post is focusing on the super talented Jason Cordova!  Jason has been a friend of mine for a few years, ever since we met at my first LibertyCon.  He’s also a fellow member of the CKP Writing Factory, and of the Baen “and more” anthology club.  For the past several years, Jason, Christopher L. Smith, Mike Massa, and I have done group readings together at LibertyCon, billing ourselves as the Four Horsepersons of the Anthology, since we seem to be in a lot of them together.

But that’s not the exciting part.  What’s exciting is that the first book in Jason’s groundbreaking MilSF epic, WRAITHKIN, is on sale for $0.99 until the 27th of October!

That’s right, for less than a dollar, you can dive in to what one reviewer characterized as:

“It has a little bit of everything. Slam-bang action. Romance. Family. Friendship. A big canvas, with a dystopian government to be alternately fought and defended…Jason’s writing keeps getting better and better, and this is a story to immerse yourself in fully…If you like milSF, you will love this book. And even if you don’t, but like big novels full of life and vigor, you will still love this book.” –Barb Caffrey, blogger and author of An Elfy on the Loose.

So head over to Amazon and check it out.  Then move on to DARKLING and DEATHLORDS, and devour them as well.  And when you’re done, leave a review!

But don’t be sad!  Because for you, my dear friends and family, there is more!  Jason has a brand, spanking-new short story called “I, Behemoth” set in the Kin Wars universe, and it’s absolutely FREE when you sign up for his mailing list.  You can find the sign up on his website at www.jasoncordova.com, or on his Facebook page here.

As the weather turns colder, why not curl up with a fast-paced Mil SF epic series?  🙂  Jason can definitely help you with that.  And like I said before, if you check him out, please, leave a review!

Much Love,

kc

Pimping My Friends — Empire of Silence by Christopher Ruocchio

September 17, 2018 by Kacey Ezell Leave a Comment

Empire of Silence

It’s been a really long time since I’ve done one of these.  But my friends, if you’re at all into space opera or sweeping themes or really amazing characters then you simply HAVE to check EMPIRE OF SILENCE out.

Christopher is a friend of mine (thus he qualifies for this type of post), and he’s truly one of the most interesting people I know.  We bonded over the shared love of stories about ancient Rome (POPULARES!), and I wasn’t at all surprised to see that love reflected in the story.

True confession:  I haven’t finished the book yet, so I can’t give you a full review… YET!  I promise I will do so, here and on Amazon and Goodreads, as soon as I finish my leisurely swim through Christopher’s amazingly silky prose.

Anyway, it’s late and I’m rambling, but I wanted to post this tonight so that it could fit in with the BOOK BOMB held by Larry Correia for this book.

Because it’s really that good.  And Christopher deserves to GET. PAID!

Thanks, my lovelies!  I hope you love it as much as I am.

Edited to add: Here’s a link to the book, because I’m a dork who forgot the first time around!

Pimping My Friends — Scott Moon

March 7, 2018 by Kacey Ezell Leave a Comment

I first came to know Scott Moon not as a writer, but as a podcaster.  He’s part of the Keystroke Medium team, and if you haven’t heard of Keystroke Medium before now, you’re in for a treat.  🙂  Keystroke Medium is a live podcast where Scott and buddies Chuck, Josh, and Ralph interview authors and talk about reading and writing and life and everything in between.  You can catch their live shows on Mondays at 11am CST, on the Keystroke Medium YouTube channel.

But, it turns out, Scott is a pretty kickass writer, too!  I first read his work in the Four Horseman Universe anthology For A Few Credits More.  He wrote “Boss”, which ties in with fellow KSM host Josh Hayes’s “Leverage”.  Both stories are really good on their own, but it was super cool the way that Scott and Josh tied them together.  After reading “Boss”, I went and looked Scott up on Amazon.

Holy smokes!  This guy’s super prolific.  My eyes bugged out at the array of gorgeous cover art and the wide range of fantasy and science fiction tales on display. I resolved then and there to start reading through Scott’s backlist, because clearly such awesomeness must be explored!

And here’s the best part.  Starting tomorrow (8 March 2018), Scott’s omnibus The Chronicles of Kin Roland will be on sale for $0.99!  The price goes up incrementally after that, until it’s back up to the (totally reasonable for three books!) list price of $8.99 on the Ides of March (that’s 15 March for those of you unfamiliar with my random Roman Empire references).

So, dear friends, do yourselves a favor and go check out Scott’s work.  I am certain you won’t be disappointed. And check out Keystroke Medium, it’s rapidly become one of my favorite podcasts.  🙂

Take care!

Kacey

PS. You can find out more about Scott at www.ScottMoonWriter.com. Enjoy! -kc

Pimping My Friends – Mark Wandrey

December 8, 2017 by Kacey Ezell Leave a Comment

Okay, so full disclosure, Mark is more than just your average, run of the mill writing friend.  He’s also my co-author, co-conspirator, mentor, honorary grandpa to my little girl, creator of one of my favorite universes to write in, and genuinely one of my favorite people.

Mark is the guy who came up with the incredible Four Horseman Universe, which was the catalyst for me meeting the guy (Chris Kennedy, co-creator and publisher of the series) who would eventually publish my first novel.  So, I owe Mark a lot.  As if that weren’t enough, Mark invited me to collaborate with him on an upcoming novel in that series about possibly my favorite character seen to date… but more to follow on that later.

Today, I want to talk about Mark’s release of the second edition of Earth Song Overture. This is the first book in Mark’s sweeping Earth Song space opera series.  We’re talking seven books of deep blue hero shit: badass redhead heroine, planet destroying war, and ships going 15,000 times the speed of light.  What’s not to love?

So, I’m just saying, if you or someone you know might be into that, maybe you want to give it a look?  I can’t think of a better holiday gift than being introduced to a new series to love.   Check it out here!

What A Week!

November 17, 2017 by Kacey Ezell Leave a Comment

You guys.  Seriously.  So many good things are happening right now that my head is spinning!  So here’s an update post with a lot of super great news and fun stuff to check out.

So, without further ado:  Thing The First!

The Good, The Bad, and The Merc edited by Mark Wandrey and Chris Kennedy is LIVE today on Amazon!  This third anthology in the bestselling Four Horseman Universe (4HU for short) contains 16 short stories written by 15 authors and continues to flesh out the amazing setting and story laid down by the previous anthologies and novels in the series.  Fans of the series will be delighted to find a story featuring Jim Cartwright, from Cartwright’s Cavaliers (the incredible first book in the series), two catsassin stories, and offerings from Rob Hampson, Christopher L. Smith, Jason Cordova, Marisa Wolf, and Phillip Wholrab’s breathtaking debut story.

Do yourself a favor and click here to pick up a copy of The Good, The Bad, and The Merc, and then if you haven’t already done so, dive in to the rest of the 4HU with Cartwright’s Cavaliers and A Fistful of Credits.  If you enjoy fun, fast paced military sci-fi, you won’t be sorry.  I promise.

Thing The Second:

Minds of Men is doing great!  Thank all of you so much for your support, either as launch team members, early reviewers, Facebook post sharers, word of mouth talkers, or whatever other role you’ve played.  I cannot tell you enough how much I appreciate you all.  We’ve enjoyed steadily growing momentum from the beginning, and I would love it if you would continue to share, support, review, talk it up… all the things you’ve been doing.

Thing the Final:

And now, an announcement!  3-Time Nebula Nominee Chuck Gannon is running a Kickstarter campaign to fund an anthology set in his Caine Riordan universe.  I could try to wax eloquent about it here, but there’s no way I’m going to beat Chuck’s own beautiful prose, so I’ll settle for linking the Kickstarter page here.

But here’s the really exciting part (at least for me!)  I’ve been announced as a stretch goal contributor!  That means that if they meet their first stretch goal, I’ll be invited to contribute a story.  Because I really, really want to write in Chuck’s amazing setting, I’ve agreed to sweeten the pot with some redshirt and cast member opportunities as backing rewards.  🙂  So if you’re dying (see what I did there!) to show up as a named character in my upcoming 4HU novel Assassin, please go check out the Kickstarter campaign, and consider backing it!

As always, thank you all for your love and support.  I couldn’t do any of this without you.  You guys remain the best.

Pimping My Friends – John F. Holmes

August 17, 2017 by Kacey Ezell Leave a Comment

So one of the things I want to do on this site, besides market my own work, is market the work of my friends and colleagues.  My buddy John F. Holmes has a new book out in a brand new swashbuckling series called The Cumberland Chronicles.

Isn’t that a cool cover?

Here’s the description from the Amazon Page:

There are many planes to the multiverse. Some, like ours, are grounded in the reality of the physical laws, and there are rules we have to live by. Some others, though, are based on magic, with gods who interfere in mortal lives. Likewise, there are societies where you have to live by rules and laws. In every universe, though, there are those who refuse to live by the bounds civilization sets on them. We call them pirates, outlaws, and renegades. They call themselves free.
This is one of those planes of the multiverse that has both magic and men who call themselves free, and this is their story.

Brian Cumberland has been many things; slave, mercenary, royal bodyguard, and more. Now, though, he and his brother Tristan command the privateer Widowmaker, sailing the four seas looking for freedom and adventure. When a ghost from Brian’s past reappears in his life, he is sent on a quest which will take him to the very gates of death.

Sounds legit, right?  So, if you feel so inclined, go check it out here: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B074TYDW9P  And if you end up reading it, do John and me both a solid and leave a review!

Thanks!  You guys are the best.
